Intentional Plagiarism

While most plagiarism is unintentional, we have to spare a moment to discuss intentional plagiarism.

Intentional plagiarism is when you knowingly and deliberately present someone else's ideas, words, and/or research as your own.

This includes (but is not limited to):

  • Intentionally not citing a source;
  • Making up fake citations;
  • Purchasing pre-written papers, discussion board posts, answers, etc.;
  • Turning in someone else's work as your own; and/or
  • Repurposing all or part of work completed for another class without permission from your current instructor to do so.

The consequences for blatant, intentional plagiarism can be severe, and an increase in anti-cheating/plagiarism technology means you are likely to get caught.

The intentional plagiarism often shares a cause with unintentional - having insufficient time to conduct thorough research and write your paper. Preparation is key!
